Department of Justice – Whitehorse Correctional Center
This is for multiple Corrections Officer Basic Trainee positions located in Whitehorse Yukon. Relocation and interview expenses will not be provided for these positions.
These are Casual training positions working up to 80 hours bi-weekly. Training will tentatively start the week of December 6, 2021.

This state-of-the-art facility has a capacity of 193 inmates and uses a direct supervision model for interacting with inmates which involves appropriately classifying and housing persons in custody. Under the direction of the Manager, Correctional Services, and as part of a team, this position carries out the day to day operational and program activities of the Whitehorse Correctional Centre. The Corrections Officer will work various shifts and is responsible for maintaining security, safety, good order, discipline and care of adult inmates by providing orientation, direction, guidance and programming. The focus is to engage the inmates in a process that provides maximum opportunity for change in an environment that is productive and supportive and in which they are treated in a respectful, fair and equitable manner. This position is classified as a Peace Officer under the Criminal Code of Canada.

We are wanting to hire and train people in Casual positions for possible future employment as Corrections Officers, including future Auxiliary On-Call and Permanent positions.

If you successfully complete this initial training & assessment, you may be given further paid on-the-job casual employment to a maximum of six months (including the training as outlined above), after which, you may be considered for hire as an Auxiliary On-Call Corrections Officer I and eligible for future Full-Time Correctional Officer I postings.
