This position is responsible for the Yukon Continuing Care Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) program contributing to the risk management of the division. This position works collaboratively with the managers of programs, supervisors, professional development coordinator, employees, human resource department, Yukon Workers Compensation Health and Safety Board and other governmental departments to provide a collaborative and shared approach to injury prevention, work-place wellness and injured staff returning to work.
This role leads change through organizational, team and team member work practice assessments, analysis of statistical data, on-going exploration and examination of evidence-informed OH&S practices, return to work and injury prevention programs in health care, teaching staff in emergency preparedness training, implementation and evaluation of targeted programs to support injury prevention, health and safety well-being and early return to work for all employees with the Continuing Care division.

Essential Qualifications

Degree, Certificate, or Certification in Occupational Health & Safety;
Experience inspecting workplaces and investigating workplace incidents and managing adverse events;
Experience in Occupational Health & Safety promoting prevention programs and activities
Experience in a Health Care setting would be an asset
Candidates who have education, training, and /or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
Candidates should have and may be assessed on:
Ability to provide leadership skills, coaching and training to members of the team.
Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience preparing reports and providing recommendations to senior management
Experience planning, organizing and delivering training programs and workshops related to Occupational Health & Safety;
Additional Information:
Conditions of Employment: WHMIS 2015, TB Screening, Vulnerable Sector RCMP security clearance and valid class 5 Driver’s Licence are all required prior to hire.
Job Requirements: Potential exposure to infectious agents, exposure to animals, exposure to second hand smoke from Residents/ Clients. Travel between Whitehorse facilities daily if needed, travel Dawson minimum twice a year.
