About The Role
Sustainable Packaging Specialist
Zespri has very ambitious sustainability targets. A number of activities identified to enable Zespri to achieve these targets are in the packaging space. This role will support the other members of the Packaging team, the Engineering Manager, the Packaging Technical Lead and the Sustainable Packaging Lead to deliver on these targets.
The predominant responsibility of the role is to develop Zespri’s understanding and quantification of our packaging footprint using Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) tools. It will include the following functions:
- Collection, collation of packaging data related to LCA work
- Calculation and update of those calculations into relevant systems
- Review and update of key sustainability data required for packaging LCA on as required basis
- Input into packaging and product LCA framework
- One-off scenario and ‘what if’ modelling as required by the business
- Presentation of the data at relevant forums
This role reports to the Packaging Technical Lead but will provide significant support to the Sustainable Packaging Lead in the Technical Team. The role will need to develop strong working relationships with a number of other people across the entire global network. In particular the role will have to engage with the Global Packaging Manager, the Global Innovation Manager, Innovation team and the Sustainability team.
Accountabilities
- Project management of elements of the packaging LCA (Life Cycle Analysis) projects.
- Support to new material and process projects.
- Time management to ensure timely completion of research within allowed timeframe.
- Communication with relevant stakeholders including sustainability, supply chain, growth, marketing and sales teams.
- Liaison and engagement with 3rd party suppliers and partners.
- Participation in team meetings.
- Building relationships with industry members through appropriate communications.
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant experience in the field of Life Cycle Analyses.
- A relevant qualification in a related field may be an advantage.
- Strong technical knowledge and skills in improving the sustainability of packaging within the supply chain.
- At least 1 year applying LCA principles to packaging related projects.
- Ideally has experience of a fresh produce supply chain.
