New Forest Wildlife Park – Education Manager

The Education Manager is primarily responsible for all matters concerned with the dissemination of knowledge both generally to the visiting public and in particular to schools, parties and other interested group visits at the New Forest Wildlife Park.

The Role:

• Develop, deliver and evaluate a range of exciting, curriculum linked workshops, resources and projects for educational groups.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of the organisation’s Conservation Education Plan.
• Collect and collate evidence of progress against intended Conservation Education outcomes.
• Follow policies, standard operating procedures and safe working practices to ensure compliance with all relevant guidelines and legislation, including health and safety, equality, safeguarding, copyright and GDPR.
• Lead, manage and mentor seasonal education department staff.
• Develop positive and productive links within the zoo and wider community.
• Participate in Zoo Licence inspections and other audits as required in an education capacity.

• Build partnerships and contacts with schools, colleges and other institutions on behalf of New Forest Wildlife Park.

Parties & Events

• Organise and host children’s parties.

• Organise and host seasonal day themed events particular in our busy periods of all the school holidays.

• Lead, manage and mentor seasonal party and events staff.

• Initiate activity days, through out the year – coordinating learning with enjoyment.

• Upkeep of party accommodation including displays and the cleaning/tidying after each event/activity.

• Supervising mail shots, posters, social media posts for organised events.

• Corelating party, school and activity bookings with head office.

Person spec:

Required:

• A teaching qualification or equivalent experience in teaching across a wide range of ages and abilities, using a variety of different delivery methods.

• A sound and up to date knowledge of the National Curriculum.
• Proven experience of developing workshops, activities and resources for educational groups.

• Good understanding of learning theory and of Generic Learning Outcomes.

• Good understanding of a wide range of applied evaluation techniques.

• The ability to communicate complex concepts in an innovative and engaging way.
• A good working understanding of modern zoos and their role in conservation.

• Good understanding of local and global issues affecting biodiversity conservation.

• Some previous leadership experience including supervisory, coaching and performance management.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• A positive, ‘can do’ attitude.

• Collaborative team worker.

• Good organisation skills in terms of time management, administration, workload planning and meeting deadlines.
• A full driving licence which is valid in the UK

Desirable

• Experience of planning and delivering education in a zoo or aquarium setting.
