Summary

Under immediate supervision of the Sanitation Superintendent, performs refuse, recycling and composting collection for the Borough. Work involves lifting heavy containers and loading contents onto refuse collection trucks, and performing physically strenuous activities such as lifting furniture and other heavy items left for collection

Experience

· This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent

Equipment Used/Operator

· Ability to use or taught to use standard public works equipment

Qualification/Skills & Knowledge Requirements

· Must possess general knowledge of hand and power tools

· Must have the ability to meet approved physical standards

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Internal maintenance of Borough buildings as required

• Maintenance of Borough properties; includes mulching, weeding, aeration of turf, fertilizing (compost), equipment repairs, tree trimming, trash and recycling removal

• Assist with the removal of snow on Borough sidewalks at Borough buildings, parks and properties

• Clean and wash equipment and machinery

• Run hand and power equipment

• Pick up of municipal trash and recycling on the back of the trash/recycle vehicles

• Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions

• Assist with bulk trash pick up

• Assist with preparing and clean-up of temporary community events

• Assist with leaf/yard waste pick up

• Assist with customer service and documentation at the compost site

• Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

· Ability to push, pull, lift or move objects that weigh 50 pounds

• Ability to sit, stand, perform fine manipulation, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl for long periods of time in excess of 30 minutes

· Ability to work in adverse or extreme environmental and weather conditions (day or night)

· Ability to work, walk, and stand on unstable soil conditions

· Ability to withstand noise

· Ability to withstand dust, dirt, pollen and odors

· May be exposed to animals, insects, chemicals, toxic metals and moving mechanical parts

License/Certificate

· Possession of a valid Pennsylvania’s Driver’s License
