Job Summary
Under the direction of Supervisor, Mississauga Celebration Square, the successful applicant will be responsible for programming, producing, planning, coordination and execution of large-scale and small-scale, outdoor events and programs at Mississauga Celebration Square that raise the profile of the venue and deliver on the City’s strategic goals to create great public spaces, celebrate our community and create a vibrant downtown.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Celebration Square programs and events produced in-house by the Celebration Square event team; i.e. Canada Day, Ontario Summer Games, Ontario Parasport Games opening ceremonies, Light Up the Square, New Year’s Eve, Movie Nights, etc.
- Liaise with key internal (Recreation, Risk Management, Parks & Forestry, Mobile Licensing, Communications, Sponsorship, Culture Programs, Central library) and external (Peel Regional Police, Paramedics, Arts groups) stakeholders to support the successful execution of events
- Execute contracts and booking agreements for Celebration Square event performers and activations
- Coordinate and execute event logistics: vendors, site maps, security plans, volunteer plans
- Manage event budgets
- Supervisor part-time staff and coordinate scheduling
- Work with sponsors and community partners to facilitate onsite activations
- Assist in development of all promotional material content; flyer, posters, website content
- Research best practices and new event and promotional programs ideas
- Other related duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Event Planning, Event Production, Communications, Marketing or related field
- Three years’ experience in general programming; knowledge and experience in program design and delivery
- Large-scale, outdoor event programming and marketing experience an asset
- Excellent customer service skills, budget management and supervisory skills are necessary
- Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and work in a team environment
- Must be highly motivated self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills and must be able to establish effective working and community relationships
- Ability to work in a changing environment
- Proficient computer skills in World and Excel are necessary
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification
- A criminal Record Search-Vulnerable Sector Screening will be required of the successful candidate to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted
- A valid Ontario G license with a good driving record and daily access to a vehicle is a definite asset
- Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
