Responsibilities
We have one position available for the Director Pae Ora at the Department of Corrections (Ara Poutama Aotearoa). This position is responsible for our Northern region, extending from Northland to the Waikato. The Director Pae Ora role offers a unique opportunity for a trailblazing senior leader to shape the future of health and rehabilitation (with a particular emphasis on offence-focused rehabilitation) in both the community and custodial contexts. The role entails:
Innovative Thinking: Addressing complex health and rehabilitation challenges with a fresh perspective, fostering new thinking and approaches to collaboration within the organisation to achieve better outcomes for individuals in our management and their whānau.
Systems Leadership: The Director Pae Ora will adopt an approach that involves thinking holistically, considering the needs and opportunities across the entirety of the Department, not just limited to Pae Ora. Key areas of systems focus for the director will be to work collaboratively across and outside of the organisation to develop new ways of working as well as strengthening collective empowerment to help achieve our organisational aspirations.
Strategic Leadership: Taking the helm in a new role, the Director will play a pivotal part in ensuring that health and rehabilitation are central and prioritised within the delivery systems in both custodial and community contexts.
Operational Impact: Leading by example, the Director will contribute to the growth and development of a diverse team, supporting operational safety using evidence-based and culturally informed approaches.
Geographical Impact: While based in the region covered by the role, the Director Pae Ora will travel regularly, providing an opportunity to represent Pae Ora and engage with other local teams (internal and external to Corrections) to shape positive outcomes for the broader community.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
The full salary range is $214,355 – $252,182 (Mid) – $302,619. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.

In 2019, we adopted Hōkai Rangi as our long-term organisational strategy to achieve better outcomes for our communities. The concept of Pae Ora provides an opportunity for Department of Corrections (Ara Poutama Aotearoa) to build an integrated health and rehabilitation service. The introduction of our confirmed Pae Ora group will help ensure that people under our management remain connected to the broader health and social wellbeing system (inclusive of whānau) through pathways of support that extend back into communities. This more holistic view of Pae Ora across Department of Corrections (Ara Poutama Aotearoa) will help ensure we can achieve more equitable health and rehabilitation outcomes for Māori and all people in our management and by thereby helping to realise the outcomes we seek through Hōkai Rangi. We are also bringing in new ways of working to help us deliver Hōkai Rangi, with a range of new roles being formed as part of The Pathway Forward Te Ara Whakamua.
