The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s (DPMC’s) is a mid-sized agency of nine business units based in Wellington. It has a unique role as the trusted advisor, leader, and steward of the system of executive government. The Head of Operations and Risk sits within the Strategy, Governance and Engagement Group (SGE) and is one of the business units that supports DPMC to achieve its strategic priorities and manage risk, ensuring it has sound strategy, effective governance, and efficient organisational systems and processes.

It also provides advice and support to the department’s Executive Leadership Team, the Security, Privacy and Organisation Health Committee, and the Risk and Assurance Committee.

We want you to succeed in this role, and to support you along the way, we’re looking for someone with strategic, conceptual and critical thinking skills and a strong analytical ability, sound financial acumen, a strong operational focus, excellent relationship management skills, and proven people leadership capabilities.
Due to the nature of the work and the environment, it is essential that you have experience in leading risk management and assurance functions; knowledge of current legislation and guidance relating to health and safety or protective security; and an understanding of current risk management methodology.

To be eligible for this position, you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 5 years. Alternatively, you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
