A rare opportunity to work in a central agency, in the heart of Government, contributing to a high-value, meaningful, and impactful mandate of work.
This is a newly established role in the Planning, Reporting and Assurance team within the Cyclone Recovery Unit. Working in a niche team alongside other experts, the Principal Advisor, Planning will lead and contribute to the development, co-ordination and implementation of the Cyclone Recovery Plan across the Government system.
The role will focus on opening doors within the system, developing a robust planning culture across agencies, and inter-agency co-operation to manage risks, nurturing key relationships and maintaining a focus on turning strategy into operational action.
A key part of the planning process is to engage with multiple agencies as well as regional and community stakeholders including iwi/Māori to ensure their views and recovery planning considerations are aligned with central national planning. The role will help support the establishment of planning engagement forums with national and regional stakeholders.
The Cyclone Recovery team are based in central Wellington and operate in a flexible by default working style, meaning a positive work life balance is encouraged. We are looking to appoint in the range of $150,000 – $170,000 p/a (including Kiwisaver contributions), and according to relevant experience level.

The Cyclone Recovery Unit (CRU) is hosted by the Department of the Prime Minister & Cabinet (DPMC).
The approach to the ongoing recovery from the flooding, and Cyclones Hale and Gabrielle will focus on being locally led and centrally supported. The CRU has been established to support the Chief Executive to lead and coordinate the Government’s recovery work programme, provide strategic policy and legal advice, support locally led engagement with communities, iwi, business, local government, regional groups and others, coordinate planning and reporting, provide advice on system risk and assurance, ensure alignment with wider policy decisions on long-term resilience, climate change and managed retreat, and provide the secretariat function for the Cyclone Recovery Taskforce.
