The Ministry of Highways is seeking a highly-skilled and collaborative leader to provide strategic leadership and direction to the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol (SHP) as the Manager, Professional Standards and Accreditation. The Saskatchewan Highway Patrol’s purpose is to improve highway safety, reduce the risk of overweight vehicles operating on the provincial highway network, and to reduce rural crime. The branch engages the commercial vehicle industry to promote compliance with safety and infrastructure protection regulations and supports the RCMP and municipal police agencies in rural crime reduction initiatives.
As a member of the Provincial Protection and Response Team (PRT), you will aid in the reduction of crime in Saskatchewan by responding to 911 calls when RCMP or Municipal Police agencies are not immediately available or when you could provide the fastest first response. You will take direct enforcement action during crimes in progress and will provide assistance and support to police agencies as requested.
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Operational Support, and as a member of the management team, this position is responsible for:
Providing quality assurance, file review, guidance, and direction on criminal and provincial investigations, including, but not limited to, the preparation of court disclosure packages;
Tracking, maintaining, reporting, and updating CALEA accreditation records for SHP within the PowerDMS database;
Assigning and monitoring tasks on PowerDMS and entering proofs for accreditation compliance;
The management, oversight and delivery of the SHP Recruiting Program, the specialized IT Program, and the Personnel Early Warning System (PEWS);
The collection, tracking, analysis, and monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the Chief of the SHP, on topics including but not limited to: PEWS, bias free policing, recruiting, pursuits, use of force, discipline, code of conduct and public complaints;
Prepare and deliver training, including but not limited to, ethics, CALEA accreditation, bias free policing, and PEWS;
Conducting and participating in formal investigations regarding public complaints, performance issues, and contravention of policies, procedures, and standards. Provide advice and expertise related to the application and interpretation of SHP policies and standards;
Participate as a leadership team member furthering the branch, ministry and government-wide goals and objectives;
Manage fiscal and human resources to ensure the effective use of resources in meeting unit plan objectives;
Develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders to deliver unit programs and services;
Create and sustain an innovative and supportive environment that enables staff to achieve results and supports our corporate values; and,
Carry a firearm and other use of force intervention options.

Typically, the knowledge, skills and experience required to be successful in this position would be obtained through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related discipline with several years of law enforcement experience combined with several years of proven leadership experience with a law enforcement or other regulatory environment.
The ideal candidate will be required to:
Pass a psychological personality assessment (MMPI) to determine suitability for law enforcement;
Complete physical/medical assessments including the Police Officers Physical Abilities Test (POPAT) with a time of 4:15 or less; and,
Provide a clean driver’s abstract during the interview process.
Candidates who are successful through the application process will be required to successfully complete 20 weeks of mandatory training at the Saskatchewan Police College as well as Commercial Vehicle Enforcement training. (Training requirements may be reduced depending on candidate’s experience).
