The Team:
Our Ec’s department supplies the vast world of Lush with elegant fragrances. The department is unique, its sweet smell of success is renowned throughout the globe. All who enter are promised a floral bouquet aroma…… YES! We are the best smelling bunch within Lush and, moreover, we are responsible for maintaining the unmistakable smell of Lush!
The Role:
This position would suit someone who naturally finds themselves following their nose and would like to pursue a career in perfumery, cosmetic regulations or analytical science. The position available will provide a broad based skill set that will allow personal growth into several differing aspects of quality control with the exact path being determined by the individual and their skill sets. For this reason, this position will suit a variety of people from school leavers with a natural curiosity for the world around them, graduates who have a science based degree or perhaps someone who would like a career change and has always found themselves unable to ignore the temptation of smelling and investigating new scents around them!
The key requirements are you need to be observant, respect the quality of all the raw materials & have an excellent sense of smell!
The responsibilities below are the core expectations of this role, however, they are not inclusive of other optional aspects of the role such as regulatory and internal compliance, R&D perfume formulations and GC-MS analysis, not to mention the numerous projects that would appeal to those with a curious mind. Whilst these aspects are optional we are a multi-faceted team who like to switch roles and support our colleagues when work-load demands so ideally we are looking for somebody who is willing and able to assist in all areas of QC.
Part of the development for this role will include travelling to learn about the growing and processing of our materials with further opportunities to travel and learn about the numerous Lush projects and community partnerships.
Job Role – General Responsibilities :
Following procedures for checking the odour quality of all raw materials that are delivered
Taking Samples from containers and labelling with the correct information
Using control samples to assess the organoleptic quality of the delivery, such as colour and consistency though predominantly odour based.
Recording date and reporting any issues
Pre-blending bulk materials when required
Making small batches of perfumes and fragrance blends for R&D purposes
General Lab Duties :
Keep the lab clean and tidy at all times
Ensure stocks of consumables are maintained
Ensure controls are up to date and stored correctly
Recording representative samples, allocating batch numbers and preparing samples ready for analysis – including olfactive screening analysis
