JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for scheduling all surgeries and pre-operative appointments as requested by the physicians/practitioners. The Surgery Scheduler will also have general responsibilities to assist in day-to-day operations of the office.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school education or G.E.D. equivalent. Prior experience in a medical practice is preferred. Must possess the sense of discipline to work in accordance with accepted clinical standards. Must be capable of dealing tactfully and effectively with patients, family members of patients, other employees and physicians/practitioners. Clear communication skills.
TRAINING: MACHINES/TOOLS/EQUIPMENT/WORK AIDS:
Three months to become independently functional. NextGen EPM & EMR, telephone, scanner, calculator, facsimile and copier. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Works under the direct supervision of Clinical Manager. No supervisory responsibilities. Has daily contact with patients, patients’ families, physicians/practitioners, nursing staff, and medical assistants.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Walks, sits, and stands intermittently throughout the day. Works in a clean, well-lit, heated/ cooled and ventilated office.
Hazardous materials exposure minimal and limited to normal office supplies.
Physical demands may include: lifting 25+ pounds, 0-25% of the time and/or pushing 25+ pounds.
Additional physical demands include: ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb or forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height simultaneously speak on the telephone and write.
Vision: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as reading from a computer terminal.
Hearing: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job.
Speaking: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job, such as communicating clearly to patients and/or their families.
Dexterity: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job.
Mental: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job.

Must have demonstrated ability to deliver services to physician, patients and fellow employees with compassion and in a responsive, courteous and concerned manner in accordance with Policy 2.24.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES:
Schedules and makes pre-operative appointment arrangements.
Will call hospital regarding any pre-operative tests.
Will schedule procedures based on dates provided by medical assistant and/or physician or practitioner at appropriate facility.
Maintains appropriate schedule for nurses regarding pre-ops.
Maintains strict confidentiality.
Performs other related duties as required.
