Overview
The Computing and Information Technology Directorate works to re-imagine how digital technologies can simplify the research experience, enable data-driven insights for decision makers, and accelerate PNNL’s research missions. CIT helps connect staff to systems while enabling a broader research computing ecosystem to improve productivity and provide a sense of community.We are looking for a Linux Systems Administrator with a strong understanding and experience with systems administration, networking, system virtualization, cloud computing, backups, Linux OS, network storage, and associated hardware platforms to join PNNL, working in a dynamic, fast- paced and complex heterogeneous technical environment. This position will maintain, upgrade, and provide support for PNNL’s back-end systems and networks. The Linux System Administrator needs to be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly, should be able to communicate technical concerns and solutions to many different people with varying degrees of technical knowledge as well as work with individuals in all departments to help solve their technical issues.
Responsibilities
Applies engineering and technical principles to the design and development of computer networks, cyber security infrastructure, telecommunications, information technology systems and tools, and database systems. Analyzes, installs, integrates, modifies, and supports all associated systems, networks, software, and databases. Plans and conducts projects after analysis of functional and operational requirements. May consult with and lead cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
BS/BA and 5 years of relevant experience -OR-
MS/MA or higher and 3 years of relevant experience -OR-
PhD and 1 year of relevant experience -OR-
AA and 14 years of relevant experience -OR-
HS/GED and 16 years of relevant experience
Demonstrated experience applying theoretical/fundamental computer science concepts through the design, development, configuration, implementation, and maintenance of computer infrastructure and networks
Preferred Qualifications:
Educational requirements, certifications/licensures, subject matter expertise, and experience that exceed the Performance Level Indicators Experience in system administration with RHEL Ubuntu/AWS Linux.
Experience with Linux system monitoring and task management.
Experience with authentication schemes that support Linux.
Demonstrated Python/PowerShell experience deploying Infrastructure services as code (IaC} Experience delivering projects via Agile methodologies.
Experience running Satellite and Landscape servers.
IT Infrastructure experience in an enterprise settng, including demonstrated O&M experience (Linux/Unix based applications, backup/recovery strategies, advanced troubleshooting, patching, hardening, etc.) Experience with Ansible/Terraform IT Automation tools.
AWS I Azure/ GCP experience.
Automated Microsost ARC/Defender and Nessus deployment experience Support of GPU and other scientific hardware.
Additional Information
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.

This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent with the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.

In accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, new employees are required to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential. To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. This investigation includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.
