About the Role
Based at our Penrose Corporate head office, you will be reporting into our Group Innovation and Sustainability Team who work together towards the common goal of positioning Fletcher Building as the NZ and Australian leader in sustainable building materials, construction and distribution.
Throughout the 10-week duration of the internship you’ll work on a project focused on the environmental impact of the products we manufacture. One of the key sustainability aims of Fletcher Building is to “Be the leader in making sustainable products”. Having the most sustainable products in the market is not only good for NZ environment and society, but it is a competitive advantage. Your role is focused on:
1. Developing and establishing a sustainable product framework based on national and international indicators and megatrends, considering for example, embodied carbon emissions, circular economy, indoor health, etc.
2. Performing a gap analysis to benchmark our products
3. Investigate innovative solutions to improve our products and processes
For this project, we are looking for an intern that can research what we should be aware of in this sector.
About You
To be successful in this internship you must be a self-starter who can not only contribute collaboratively as part of a team but can independently take ownership of their work. You will have strong research skills to dive deep into different products and processes. You will have knowledge/interest in both environmental impacts and commerce to be able to guide the project into finding the best products and solutions. You will have investigative skills and be organised in your approach to collecting information from a range of sources. You’ll be able to share high quality findings based on quality decision making. You will be comfortable being involved with meetings with people within Fletcher Building and external companies to gather information for this project. You’ll be driven to ensure this project is carried to fruition and be able to creatively solve any challenges along the way.
The project going ahead is receiving funding from the Callaghan innovation in the form of an R&D grant. To be the successful incumbent, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be studying, or have recently completed, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree or qualification at NZQA level 7-10. If study has been completed, the closing date of your final semester should be less than 12 months ago.
- Be studying science, technology, engineering, design or business at a New Zealand tertiary education institute.
- Be legally permitted to work in New Zealand.
- Not have been previously employed at Fletcher Building unless part-time or temporary.
- Not have undertaken more than two Experience Grant internships with Fletcher Building
