POSITION TITLE: Proofing Desk Specialist

LOCATION: USA – Remote / Flexible

Pioneer Utility Resources and its communications subsidiaries work to support the efforts of rural electric and telecommunications companies across the U.S. as they engage with their communities.

We are hiring a temporary, fully remote, full-time, benefits ineligible position with a 6-9 month engagement timeline. Some possibility of conversion to permanent employment exists, though the position is at present considered temporary.

In this position, you’ll help expedite the turnaround of proofing changes both to written materials and graphic designs. The goal will be to satisfy client timelines and quality demands, ensuring top-notch and timely final deliverables while reducing the cycle counts for our core writing and design teams. You will come to understand our clients, their goals and how to bring projects to completion. In short, you will apply the final touch-ups and polish to our creative genius, ensuring that our clients’ branding and collateral shines even more brightly than before.

We are looking for someone able to prioritize smartly, remain organized, and juggle multiple priorities throughout a given week. You’re already a whiz at project coordination, and you’re excited to learn new technology and systems. You could be a junior copy desk editor – but you like marketing and design too much to just focus on language. In fact, you could pass for a budding graphic designer – but come to think of it, you really like words too!

You enjoy that sense of satisfaction that comes when a project is marked “complete.” High-quality quick turns (not hours or days of deep work) are your specialty. And you’re motivated by knowing not only that the is client happy, but also that your hard-core writing and design colleagues have been freed up to do their best and deepest work rather than spending time correcting those all-important but time-consuming nits.

RESPONSIBILITES

• Accept work as assigned or source work from our proofing system (PageProof)
• Prioritize work according to its import and deadlines
• Translate client and Pioneer QC markings and notes into actionable “fixes,” clarifying where needed, but avoiding getting bogged down in too much deliberation or communication
• Implement basic copy corrections
• Implement small design corrections using basic InDesign, Illustrator and/or Canva tools
• Track and communicate your work using provided systems, including Monday.com

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Basic proofing skills; you can fix copy errors identified by others without creating new ones.
• Basic graphic design skills; you can shift logos, correct colorations, and make other minor changes.
• Attention to detail. Every proof returned should be expected to be the final cycle – nothing overlooked, nothing left undone.
• Ability to work exceedingly well with others. You happily share the load.
• Comfort with multiple assignments of varying types and deadlines.
• Good at meeting deadlines and finishing what you start.
• Adaptability — you are excited about trying new processes or ideas to see if they work.
• Low supervision required – you’re a self-starter who doesn’t need to be pressured to do great work, on time.
• A sense of humor and grace, which makes you an excellent collaborator.
• Additional responsibilities as needed.

• Compensation will be dependent on a variety of factors including experience and geography, and will be discussed in the hiring process with leading candidate(s).
