The opportunity

Our Oil Control Centre team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are enhancing our presence in Calgary, Alberta to support the monitoring and controlling of various facilities through the use of a state of the art Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to ensure safe, reliable and cost-effective transportation on behalf of our customers.

We are seeking a keen Controller who has knowledge and interest in controlling hydraulics, monitoring the data and responding to alarms. The individual has proven skills, competencies and capacity to stay highly organized, well informed, adhering to tight deadlines. You are a problem-solver which supports optimization while maintaining compliance and operational excellence with the Company and regulatory bodies.

What you’ll do

• Carry out and execute safe operations aligned with TC Energy operating procedures (TOPS)
• Handle and implement customer requests/changes consistent with facility capabilities, connecting pipeline limitations and quality principles
• Analyze planned and unplanned shut-ins or interruptions and restore the system to normal conditions
• Coordinate complex and diverse issue resolution involving unexpected refinery shut-ins or operational interruptions
• Understand Oil Pipelines’ capabilities and coordinate responses with connecting parties upstream and downstream
• Comply with corporate policies and contractual obligations while maintaining profitability and customer satisfaction

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Two (2) years’ experience in operations or related experience
• Consideration will be given to individuals with other combinations of education and technical experience
• Exercises resourcefulness and ingenuity to interpret policy in situations where considerable variation in interpretation is possible
• Ability to maintain a positive work environment within a multifunctional team setting
• Ability to work effectively in a highly dynamic environment with changing priorities under tight time constraints
• Willing and able to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

• SCADA experience
• Oil and gas experience with a commercial focus
• Relevant post-secondary education (e.g. engineering technology) and/or technical training
• Control Room Operational experience
• Prior experience working an alternating day/night shift schedule
• Fundamental knowledge of liquids pipeline hydraulics and/or operational experience with oil, refined products or hot bitumen

• This position requires candidates to:

• Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
• Successfully complete a security clearance/criminal record check.

About our business

Our 4,900-kilometre (3,000-mile) liquids pipeline system connects growing continental oil supplies to key markets and refineries. The Keystone Pipeline System delivers approximately 20 per cent of western Canadian exports to key refinery markets in the U.S. Midwest and Gulf Coast, where it is converted into fuel and other useful petroleum products.

We are pleased that the Northern Courier Pipeline System has commenced operations. The 90 km (56 mile) pipeline system transports bitumen and diluent between the Fort Hills mine site and Suncor Energy’s terminal located north of Fort McMurray, Alberta. The pipeline system is a critical piece of infrastructure to support the long-term plans for growth and transmission of increased production from the Alberta oil sands. The pipeline commenced transportation services in late November 2017.
