The School of Economics at the University of Bristol is seeking to fill several academic posts with high calibre staff to expand the school’s academic profile in all fields in line with growth in our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We are recruiting on our Teaching and Scholarship pathway (teaching focused pathway 3).
This is an exceptional opportunity to work in and shape economics education at a pioneering, research-intensive School of Economics with a strong commitment to world-leading, effective and student-centred pedagogy.
We are looking to appoint at Lecturer level (Assistant Professor) who will contribute to our strong economics scholarship profile and who show a commitment to excellent teaching and are able to shape economics education within the School and beyond.
You will be engaged in research, scholarship teaching and administration. Teaching will be primarily at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. You will supervise dissertation students, act as a personal tutor and co-supervise research students. You will be expected to take on an administration role appropriate to the level of appointment. As this is a teaching focused pathway (pathway 3) you will be expected to have an aptitude to teach to the highest standards at both Undergraduate and Masters level and to engage in scholarly activities to innovate teaching and to shape economics education.
The post holder will be actively involved in research-led teaching in economics at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and will contribute to administration and pedagogical development across various study programmes. You will be able to teach economics to the highest standard using both traditional and innovative teaching methods. You will also be able to enhance and develop academic undergraduate or postgraduate programmes (as appropriate to the level of appointment). Finally, the successful candidate will show a clear appetite to engage in scholarly activities such as trialling and evaluating learning and teaching methods, developing the curriculum and/or engaging with research in economics and economic pedagogy more generally.
You should have completed, or be close to completing a PhD in Economics or a related discipline by the post start date (January 2023).
