The Seeley Library is seeking to appoint an engaging and helpful team member to support our busy and friendly library. This role is well suited to people who have great customer service skills and enjoy interacting with others.
Our Junior Library Assistant works as part of a team that supports readers across a range of Humanities and Social Sciences subjects (History, Politics & International Studies, Sociology, Land Economy, and Latin American Studies). Daily duties include staffing the library desk and being the first person that many new and regular readers will meet. You will receive full training on how the library operates and be able to show readers how to navigate the collections, use our facilities and access the Seeley’s material. This role will give you the opportunity to use your customer-facing skills to help readers to use the Seeley and direct them towards further support.
Our Junior Library Assistant helps the library to stay organised by shelving returned material and fetching items requested by readers. They also assist with routine tasks, such as scanning book chapters and labelling books on designated reading lists. This role sits within a supportive team and will depend on your ability to work flexibly in order to meet group targets as well as your own. Your organisational skills and ability to prioritise will help ensure that readers are supported and the library delivers a responsive service to members of the University.
The working pattern is Monday to Friday, between 9 am and 5:15 pm throughout the year.
