Graduation ceremonies at Cambridge (generally known as Congregations) are important in the life of our students, the University and the Colleges. At Cambridge, these ceremonies are more than ceremonial; for a student to graduate, they must have their degree conferred (awarded) either in person or in absence at a degree ceremony.
Congregations take place in our historic Senate-House and elements of the Cambridge ceremony have their origin amongst the earliest customs of the University some eight hundred years ago. The Congregations are scheduled across the year and on some weekends.
To ensure the continued delivery of professional and smooth running Congregations, the University is building a new administrative team, to include a Congregations Manager and Administrator.
Working under the direction of the Congregations Manager and in collaboration with colleagues in the Colleges, central University offices and those directly involved in the ceremony (predominantly the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, the Proctors’ and Marshal’s Office, the Esquire Bedells, 3rd party providers) you provide a comprehensive administration service. This requires good planning and organisation skills, effective interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to undertake multiple activities to set standards and deadlines, and to work to a high level of accuracy.
Whilst your primary focus is to deliver the administration required for Congregations, you will also undertake other administrative work to support the activities of other teams in Student Operations. For this, you will need to same level of skills as described above alongside the ability to work flexibly.
You will need to be available to work at all the Congregations, which will involve some evening and weekend work.
