Breedon is a leading construction materials group in Great Britain and Ireland. We operate two cement plants and around 80 quarries, 40 asphalt plants, 170 ready-mixed concrete plants, nine concrete and clay products plants, four contract surfacing businesses, six import/export terminals and two slate production facilities.
Our Kinnegad plant manufactures cement for sale throughout the island of Ireland and exports to Great Britain through our terminal in the Port of Dublin.
Purpose of Job
To operate and control all aspects of the plant from the control desk in order to produce cement to ISO9000 standards. To collect and analyse samples from the plant. To assist the production team leader in the performance of their job.
Responsibilities / Key Tasks
Monitor plant performance and react in order to maintain production levels taking account of quality parameters, safety parameters and the engineering requirements of the plant.
- Uphold and contribute to our positive Health and Safety culture.
- Record plant operating data.
- Notify staff about breakdowns to ensure they are attended to timeously
- Obtain samples and test them in accordance with testing procedures
- Maintain good industrial relations
- Complete production reports
- Assist in kiln stop work
- Control all major process lines within the cement manufacturing operation including equipment commissioning, starts- ups, shutdowns, and emergency condition management as per established SOP’s in order to meet production requirements.
- Continuous monitoring of the plant process lines using all available tools to ensure employee safety, stable equipment operation, equipment integrity within prescribe design limitations, operating targets, and environmental regulations.
- Coordinate plant resources to troubleshoot, inspect, and maintain plant equipment as required, to meet production demands and prevent failures.
- Maintain awareness of the automation system control strategy and make recommendations for continuous improvement.

- To continually update all areas of knowledge required to carry out the job at maximum effectiveness and attend training courses as and when required.
- To maintain a positive and enthusiastic approach to your job and set the highest possible standards for yourself and your co-workers
- Self-motivated and the ability to work of own initiative
- Good communication skills. An ability to communicate effectively with all plant staff and senior management.
- High level of problem solving skills and technical awareness.
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Desire to learn and improve knowledge of developing trends and advancements in the cement industry.
- Team worker
- Ability to handle stress and work on own initiative
