The School of Medicine is looking for an inspirational new Dean of Education to guide its Teaching and Learning through an exciting period of reform and development and support the school’s mission to improve people’s health and wellbeing by outstanding education and research.
Nottingham has one of the largest yearly intakes of medical students in the country, offering 5 and 6 year undergraduate courses at both the University of Nottingham and Lincoln Medical School, a 4 year graduate entry course based at the Royal Derby Hospital Medical School, a BSc qualification in Medical Psychology and Therapeutics and BSc/MSci qualifications in Cancer Sciences, and postgraduate specialist research and masters courses. As Dean of Education, you will have strategic oversight and responsibility for all undergraduate and postgraduate student activity in the school, including direct responsibility for the 5 and 6 year medical courses and their clinical phases. You will lead the development and implementation of our teaching and learning strategy and activity for the school and develop educational capacity and talent of our team.
You will be a key member of the School’s Executive Group, working collaboratively to manage and lead the School, providing strategic direction and goal setting. As a consistent role model, you will facilitate a dynamic and forward-looking environment which fosters integration, collaboration and the highest levels of quality, integrity, and ethics. You will foster inter-disciplinary team working to develop team spirit and team coherence to create a culture of high performance and support of others based on openness and respect.
To be successful you must have a higher degree, for example a PhD, membership/fellowship of a relevant Royal College and a Medical Education qualification such as a Senior Fellowship of Advance HE or equivalent. You will possess people centred leadership skills, have an excellent track record in medical education and be a strategic thinker with effective analytical capability to facilitate conceptual thinking, innovation and creativity. Additionally, you must be able to demonstrate and evidence a heartfelt commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
The successful candidate will be employed on a full-time permanent university contract in line with Follett principles, whilst holding an honorary clinical service contract with one of our partner NHS Trusts or in Primary Care. The balance between university work and any clinical work is expected to strongly favour university work and is negotiable.
In our School, we believe that diverse teams deliver the highest quality teaching, research and student experience. To achieve our University wide vision of ranking highly across all metrics and benchmarks, we are seeking applications from high quality people whose backgrounds, experience and identity broaden and enhance the diversity of our existing team.
The application process requires you to complete an online form via the apply link below and upload your CV and a two-page statement outlining how you meet the requirements of the role (as outlined in the role profile) and what your vision would be for the School of Medicine at Nottingham.
