Salary range £24,000 – £26,000 per annum

Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week)

Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP & YOI Parc accommodates 1038 convicted male adult prisoners and remand/ convicted young offenders and young people in a secure but modern environment.

We now have an opportunity for a Family Intevention Mentor to join our team at HMP Parc.

The successful candidate will be required to manage a caseload of Invisible Walls clients – i.e. prisoners and families – and to work within all three Invisible Walls Hubs – Prison, Through The Gate and Community to provide initial engagement, motivational support, advice and assistance to families involved in the project. To work in alignment with G4S IW Family Services at HMP Parc etc. To conduct all mentoring and reporting process in accordance with service procedures, to liaise with all relevant internal and external agencies, and accommodate the potential for group intervention delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Successfully engage, assess, and motivate appropriate clients into the project.
• Appropriately maintain clients involvement in the service until community completion, within contracted attrition rates.
• Actively contribute to the 3 core outcomes of IW: Reducing reoffending, reducing intergenerational offending, and increasing positive community inclusion.
• Attend regular supervision sessions with IW Manager.
• Attend regular mentor/other support meetings as required.
• Record accurately all mentoring contacts with project clients on approved documentation.
• Comply with all operational policies, including: H&S, lone worker policy, child protection, data protection etc.
• To carry the appropriate G4S mentoring equipment during community contacts, to include mobile phone, First Aid kit and torch, and any other items as directed.
• Delivery of interventions as directed.
• Make referrals to relevant support services as appropriate.
• Arrange post release support and transition with prisoner, family, and connected stakeholders.
• Arrange appointments with clients in the community as required
• Conduct on-going assessment of clients’ needs and level of support.
• Conduct any other duties as required by the IW manager.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills

• Educated to minimum of GCSE level or equivalent.
• Evidence of ability to write professional and literate reports.
• Experience with all relevant Microsoft/Google packages.
• Previous experience, custodial and or community, of working specifically with offenders/and or children and families within the context of criminal justice and social exclusion.
• Knowledge of the G4S Invisible Walls model and service delivery, including established work with schools, and other service delivery relevant to the agenda of working with prisoners and their children and families.
• Experience of working within the context of reducing reoffending, youth offending, intergenerational transmission of crime, and social exclusion.
• Working knowledge of child/public protection policy and procedures – custody and community.
• Mentoring experience, custody and/or community.

Desirable Skills

• Recognised university degree in a related subject.
• Prior experience working within a mentoring position with challenging individuals.
• Experience of working within a custodial environment.
• Experience of the criminal justice system.
